The movie THE HELP is about a woman named Skeeter Phelan who is an aspiring journalist. She gets a job at the Jackson Journal answering questions about household cleaning. To help her with her column, she enlists the help of a maid, Aibileen, who works for her friend.
Skeeter’s hope to become a journalist leads her to contact a publishing company in New York. She did not get hired by them immediately. However, she was told to keep writing and contact them once she gained more work experience. She spoke to one of the publishing company representatives who tells her something like “write about something that’s important to you”. Skeeter then decides to interview the maids who raised white children. She had been raised by a black maid named Constantine, who mysteriously moved away while she was in college. The story ensues as Skeeter takes us on her journey through the interviews and the book publication.
I liked the movie as a coming-of-age story for Ms. Skeeter. It was NOT an historical account of the lives of black maids or women in the south, nor do I think it was intended as such. The controversy about the depiction of the African American labor has already begun. People say that the picture painted of the African American maids doesn’t accurately reflect the severe hardship that they endured. I agree that the movie doesn’t show the maids experiencing a huge amount of brutality and exploitation. Yet, this movie was based on a book by Kathryn Stockett who was raised by a black woman. The best she can do is share based on her experiences and those of her friends. As children, white people probably did not see the difficult lives of the help. The story is being told from their perspective and seems to be getting at the gratitude white people felt from having someone who cared in their lives.
My other feedback is as follows:
The movie cost $4 at the matinee in my town. The prices have been lowered here. I recall $5.50 for a matinee several weeks back. There were an estimated 150 people of various ethnicities in my theater.
People were quiet during the movie. Other than the expected laughs at the onscreen events, people were quite respectful. Aibilene and Minnie’s relationship was funny, perfect, sisterly and heartwarming. That is so nice to see onscreen. People could emulate that more in real life.
I laughed out loud several times. Minnie and Skeeter were quite humorous even though there were a few serious moments.
Octavia Spencer, who plays Minnie, ought to model hats for a living. Her images in hats were inspiring. Someone styled her beautifully. The green crochet-looking hat was my favorite.
Aibilene’s wig care was informative and funny. She kept curlers in it when she wasn’t wearing it. The intent may not have been to be a joke but after seeing the wig a couple of times I laughed because of how Aibilene took such good care of it. It was surprising to see that level of detail. I loved it.
Cicely Tyson and Sissy Spacek were fabulous as usual.
Black Maids instilled lots of confidence in children. They were expert mothers.
The book was a bit different. For example, in the book Minnie ran into Miss Celia’s husband before Miss Celia told him about Minnie. Also, the reason Aibilene had cared for seventeen children is that she deliberately found new work after the children were about nine years of age. Aibilene felt that the children started to believe what their parents told them about maids and African Americans once they reached a certain age. Obviously ray ban sunglasses outlet , she wanted to leave the relationship on a high note.
We need more Skeeter’s in this world. She was funny and sincere. The scene with the toilets on Hilly’s lawn was pure entertainment.
Overall, I loved the movie and how the maids supported each other through the toughest times.

Preity performs the role of the president in the photography club. Malavika lives with Preity and her mom as her parents reside abroad.
Vishal gets head over heels in love with Malavika and Preity has a crush on Rahul. Vishal tries hard to get in touch with Malavika on Facebook and Preity sends a friend request to Rahul on this social networking site. But both Rahul and Malavika do not approve them as friends. Eventually Preity sends a friend request to Rahul from Malavika’s facebook profile and gets accepted this time as at that time Rahul’s account was in the hands of Vishal. Preity and Vishal start chatting with each other without getting aware of this truth. The twist comes in the movie when they fix a meeting to hook up. Both of them urge the actual owner of the facebook profiles they are using, that is Rahul and Malavika who manage the situation.
On the celebration of college’s silver jubilee, Vishal and Preity get assigned to a similar looking theme project. In the course of this, they find themselves with lots of common factors but they cannot maintain any good bond. Soon in the birthday party of Rahul, Vishal catches Rahul and Malavika kissing. Vishal fights with Rahul thinking that he is stealing Malavika from him. Gradually the truth behind those Facebook chattings is revealed by Preity to Vishal. Afterwards the duo, Vishal and Preity fall in love with each other. And the story ends up with Vishal’s proposal to Preity in front of the audience in College’s Silver Jubilee festival. The movie is all about the new style of romance of the generation X.
The movie has already received a good response from audience as well as the critics. It is rated 3.5 out of 5 stars. The direction of the movie is complimentary to the story line. Saqib and Saba created an awesome pair on screen. Nupur Asthana’s matured direction made the movie flawlessly entertaining.

So… You want to be in a Film? For those people who do not live in Los Angeles, New York or Chicago cheap five fingers , finding auditions may not always be easy.
There really is no huge database of every audition in the country organized by city or town. Most auditions are not national or nationwide. Sure the large Reality Shows will sometimes travel cross country and schedule auditions from coast to coast but movie productions will not.
Most movies will cast their small parts, extras and speaking extras from locals in the area that they are shooting in.
Yes, I know you may be thinking that you have seen the ads on multiple websites that promise high paying extra work in any city-well, for a fee. I have even seen some that go as far as telling you that if you do not live near the production, producers will fly you over. That is simply not true. Extras are always cast locally.
The reason is economic. Extras are paid minimum wage and are usually used as background for scenes that need lots of people. Anyone can be an extra because it does not require any skill. If you were in charge of production would you fly someone in just to pay them minimum wage to stand around, of course not.
So now that you know where not to look, you may be asking “where should I look?”. The answer is easy, within your own community.
When productions come to small towns its usually a big deal and you will see information about it in local papers and on local news sites. For larger cities you may need to check with the States Film Commissions.
Most states have a Film Commission that helps production companies. The Film Commissions will normally list all crew and casting calls on their website along with contact information and production schedules.
Another way to find paid extra work and small parts is to register with your local extras casting directors. Not all cities have dedicated extras casting directors, but cities that do a lot of production work such as Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit and many others will. If you don’t know who the casting directors are, call your local film commission and ask them.
Remember that more then anything getting into the entertainment world requires diligence ad tons of patience. As its often said it takes 7 to 10 years to become an overnight success in acting

This week in my movie class, we saw the drama, “Roadie”, which features a number of actors whose faces you may recognize, even if their names might be unfamiliar; among some of the more familiar names would be Jill Hennessy and Bobby Cannavale.
Synopsis
After spending nearly a quarter of a century touring with a rock music band, an over-aged roadie unexpectedly finds himself out of work — but when he’s forced to move in with his mother, will he be able to get beyond his past and come to grips with his new life?
Story
Jimmy Testagross (Ron Eldard) has spent his entire adult life working at one job: as a roadie for the rock band Blue Oyster Cult. After over 20 years of lugging around and setting up their equipment, the band’s management suddenly fires Jimmy so that they can hire younger and cheaper roadies in favor of someone more experienced. Finding himself unexpectedly out of work for the first time in his life and lacking a permanent address, he is forced to return to his childhood home in Queens, NY and move in with his long-widowed mother.
Re-orienting himself to this life is not easy for either Jimmy or his mother, especially when he sees how age has debilitated her. While running an errand in town cheap five fingers , Jimmy decides to make a detour into a neighborhood watering hole to quench his thirst. Once there,he runs into Randy (Bobby Cannavale), an old acquaintance from high school. After reminiscing for a while, Jimmy learns that Randy has been married to Nikki (Jill Hennessy), Jimmy’s old flame,for a number of years. Late in life, it turns out that Nikki has begun a career as a musician and is now performing her songs at that very same bar every week.
Following her sound check at the bar, Nikki and Randy invite Jimmy to see her show that night. Once Nikki and Jimmy are left alone to spend the afternoon together, he brings her to his mother’s house where they listen to old music in his bedroom. It is during this time that Jimmy discovers that he still has feelings for Nikki. Later, Jimmy is invited to join Nikki and Randy in a nearby motel where they party prior to her performance. With everyone drunk and drugged up, revelations are made about each person’s true feelings and intentions. Coming to the bitter realization that his homecoming has been less than triumphant, can Jimmy somehow figure out a way to turn the page on his past and find a new life for himself?
Review
This episodic,self-indulgent movie is difficult to watch because it’s way too hard to root for a main character who’s so much of a jerk. After suffering throughout much of the film, we are supposed to believe by the end that he is now on the road to redemption and is ready to change his ways. This may very well be and I’m not saying it isn’t believable, but by this time, we’re left to ask the question, “Who cares?”. This guy is the embodiment of arrested adolescence and not only has he suffered for it, but he has clearly made his loved ones suffer for it as well – but he’s so selfish that he either can’t or won’t see how his actions have impacted others.
The seemingly aimless nature of this movie apparently tries to come together towards the end, but can you really hang in there until then? “Roadie”seems to be populated with immature adults lacking in self-awareness to the point that they are incapable of monitoring their behavior, much less growing up. After a while (and maybe a very short while), you lose your patience with them and completely fall out of the story (such as it is). As a result, I can’t really recommend this film, either in its likely limited theatrical release or as a rental/download.
There were several interviews in this class, before and after the screening. Prior to the screening, director Michael Cuesta was interviewed by our instructor; he talked about collaborating on the script with his brother Gerald and shooting on Super 16 (his preference over video). Post-screening, cast members Lois Smith and David Margulies took the stage. Margulies plays one of the neighbors; while his name may not sound familiar to most people, his face most definitely would be – with a long list of credits, you would most likely recognize him as The Mayor in the film “Ghostbusters”. One of his most memorable lines from the night was when he spoke of being in a play with Katherine Hepburn; they stood in the wings waiting to go on stage when she would bow her head and utter, “This is such an embarrassing profession!”. Lois Smith also has an impressive list of credits, despite the fact that you may not recognize her name; she’s been in such films as “East of Eden” and “Five Easy Pieces”. Smith spoke of getting the acting bug as a kid when performing in church plays staged by her father; her regret, though, was the fact that he died after her freshman year of college,so he never lived to see her fulfill her life’s dream of becoming a professional actress.

Movie Plot Thoughts Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon

In the weeks leading up to quite possibly the most anticipated movie of the summer (although the Boy Magician – Harry Potter – will surely give it a run for its money), Transformers Dark of the Moon has characteristically released tidbit-after-tidbit of its plot. With all that said, since the Writers Strike excuse that was used for the paucity and lack-of-focus of Revenge of the Fallen (surely they could have gotten a fan to write the plot, right? It would have been better than what they ended up with) is no more, what can we expect Dark of the Moon to be about? It is clear they have picked a good element around which to revolve it; the space-race between the US and USSR gets max points just for its significance alone. The revelation in the most recent batch of post-Superbowl Transformers commercials that human beings might have sided with the Decepticons does one of the best things an action film can do for the audience: post them strongly on one side over another side. Do not be surprised if the audience is rooting only for the Autobots, and the only humans that get any love whatsoever are Sam and girl! Especially when the trailers seem to suggest that the human government, or some elements of it, knew of the Decepticons long before the general public, and sought to use them for personal reasons, which pretty much sums up human history.
The introduction of a new villain, Shockwave cheap five fingers shoes , also leaves us wondering what role – if any – Megatron will play in Dark of the Moon.
